How to Make

1. Start with a square of paper (you will need to cut a perfect square if you are using a4).
2. Fold the bottom edge up to the top edge and unfold.
3. Then fold the left to the right edge and unfold leaving a cross pattern in the middle.
4. Turn the paper over and position so that the cross becomes an x.
5. Now fold in half again point to point this time first top to bottom and unfold and then left to right and unfold.
6. Turn the paper back over again.
7. Bring the left and right corners towards you and down squash this flat when the two inner folds meet under the top layer.
8. You now have a square base.
9. Fold the bottom right and left diagonal edge of the front layer over to the middle to align with the central crease then unfold.
10. Fold the top point down. This crease should run from the left to the right of the two previous creases.
11. Unfold the top point.
12. Now lift the bottom point and bring the edges in squashing it flat into a diamond.
13. Repeat on the other side.
14. This is known as a bird base.
15. Fold the bottom left and right diagonal edges of the front layer to align with the central crease.
16. Flip over and repeat.
17. Fold the bottom right point up to the right and make a crease.
18. Unfold the previous step and inside reverse fold the crease you just made.
19. Repeat on other side.
20. Pick one end to be the cranes head and make a inside reverse fold of about 2 cm.
21. Finally fold the wings down and you have a crane.

Top Tip

Be sure to use your nail to make each fold really tight for the best end result
